In a desperate attempt to prove his worth to his fellow Constructicons, Scavenger is driven by a manic urge to find things of value. He'll dig up anything from a backyard to an entire hillside in order to accomplish his goal - personal property of others means nothing to him. More often than not, what he brings back is useless junk, which only reinforces his own image of uselessness to the others. It is only because of his unique abilities sometimes proving to be of vital importance that his continued existence is tolerated.
Abilities: In vehicular mode, Scavenger's power shovel is equipped with a variety of magnetic, ionic, electrical, and gas sensors that enable him to detect the presence of a variety of materials within a 500-yard radius. He also emits sonic charges into the ground. By analyzing the returning echoes, also utilizing his other sensors, he can determine with 80% accuracy the composition of the ground beneath him up to a depth of 1.2 miles. The ability enables him to detect anything from trace metals to fuel sources (something that is vital to the Decepticon cause). He carries a missile launcher in vehicular mode and a laser pistol in robot mode. When combined with his power shovel, causing it to break down from metal fatigue.
Weaknesses: Scavenger's abilities are diluted by his poor judgment, which in turn leads to his squandering vast amounts of fuel. He is also prone to overtax," "The Burden Hardest to Bear," and "The Rebirth Part 1." He appeared in the comic book issues 10, 19, TJ 4, 37, 39, 41, and G2 issue number 7.
Appearances: Scavenger appeared in the T.V. episodes "Heavy Metal War," "City of Steel," "The Core," "Autobot Run," "Microbots," "Megatron's Master Plan Part 2," "Desertion of the Dinobots Part 1," "Make Tracks," "The Secret of Omega Supreme," "The Master Builders," "Triple Takeover," "Starscream's Brigade," "Masquerade," "Trans-Europe Express," "The Five Faces of Darkness," "Fight or Flee," "Carnage in C-Minor fellow Constructicons, he becomes the right arm module of the giant robot known as Devastator.
Toy Line: On the Hasbro toy line, Scavenger was Constructicon #2. The package the figure came in included a scavenger steam shovel, power pak, drill, laser pistol, label sheet, and Devastator instruction sheet. Collectible items printed on the back of the packaging included a tech spec and robot points.
Addition information: Scavenger's voice was made by the late Don Messick for the Transformer's cartoon series. Other Transformer voices he did were Gears and Ratchet.
